Chartered status is a widely recognised mark of regulatory distinction. It shows that you have achieved exceptional levels of expertise and adhere to stringent professional standards.
Currently, anyone doing actuarial work may call themselves an actuary, regardless of their qualifications.
Chartered Actuary status is only available to IFoA members who have achieved actuarial qualifications.

As a Fellow or Associate of the IFoA, you can start using chartered status whenever you like, using the designation Chartered Actuary (Associate) or Chartered Actuary (Fellow), and the relevant post-nominal, which is either:

You can update your member record to show charted status in a few short steps:
1. Log in to your member portal using the My Account button at the top of the page.
2. Select Membership, then Chartered status from the left-hand menu.
3. Select Adopt chartered status (the form may take a few moments to load).
a. The form will display your current post-nominal. You鈥檒l be asked to choose whether you would like to keep it or update it to include the chartered post-nominal (C.Act).
b. Choose I wish to change to [current post nominal] to C.Act and click submit.
4. We will send a confirmation email and update your member record.
When you choose to update your member record to show chartered status, we will also send you information on receiving a personalised digital badge you can use to share your status on your professional profiles.
